Mounted Shooting Competition

Everyone likes to showcase the new skills he or she has learned.  Attend a horse show with us and you will take home more than just a ribbon.  Students will take home a real sense of achievement, knowledge and experience, a deeper partnership with their horse and amazing memories.  Our family competes in a sport called mounted shooting.  Think barrel racing but we have over 70 patterns and we have to shoot at 10 targets while navigating the course.  There are three divisions of competition.  Shooter, Wrangler limited and Wrangler Open.  Wranglers are riders 12 and under and do not shoot at targets but concentrate on navigating the course.  Limited riders do not wear guns but the open riders do.   Horse shows are all about setting and achieving goals, riding and controlling your horse in an unfamiliar setting, and overcoming fear and nerves.  If you compete in horse shows you will be guaranteed to leave with incredible memories.  We have limited shooting horses available for competition however, so if you have your own horse we can help you get started with mounted shooting as well.

Mounted Shooting Beginner Clinics

Are you looking for something new and exciting to try with your horse?  Challenge yourself and your equine partner and join us for a clinic and/or a clinic series.  Cowboy mounted shooting is a high octane, competitive sport, where the rider and horse must navigate one of many patterns and shoot at 10 targets.  Competitors use two single action 45LC revolvers loaded with specially formulated black powder blanks to break balloon targets.  Mounted shooting requires skill in both horsemanship and marksmanship.  There are long gun classes as well as wrangler classes for riders 12 years and under.  The goal of the clinics are to help already competent riders expose their horses to gunfire so that the horse and rider can begin mounted shooting practices and or competition.  If you are interested in hosting an event at a location of your choosing contact us and we can discuss the options.

Mounted Shooting Practices

We host mounted shooting practices in Unadilla, GA at the Southeastern Arena the first and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30-8:00.  All are welcome to come and watch but we do ask that if your horse has not been exposed to gunfire that you contact us first as it may be better to attend a beginner shooter clinic first.  We also host practices at our farm throughout the year. Follow our Facebook page to stay up to date with practice information.

Mounted Shooting Divisional Jackpots

We host divisional mounted shooting jackpots here at the farm as well.  The jackpots are Dirty D's which means that even if you do not shoot clean you still have an opportunity to earn a check.  Penalties are assessed and the number of D's paid depends on the number of competitors.  Follow our Facebook page to stay up to date with jackpot opportunities.
